Broadway has welcomed several AI finalists but it has yet to boast a winner. That may change this spring should Fantasia Barrino join the New York cast of The Color Purple.E!online reports that she would play Celie, the role originated by Tony Award-winner LaChanze and now played by Jeannette Bayardelle.
"This is so great for her," one source says. "This is going to be so big. Oprah is making a big deal out of it." The Color Purple marked its 500th performance on Broadway on Tuesday.
Maybe Tasia Mae feels like this is the redemption she needs since she missed out on playing the role of "Effie" in 'Dreamgirls.' I could see her portraying a young Celie . . . *attempts not to make an illiteracy joke* Now whether her performance is actually good or not remains to be seen. I hope if she does get the role that she hires an acting coach because her small screen performance in 'Life Is Not A Fairy Tale' was not the business.
