He's So Hood

Ay yi yi. The following would have made for an interesting episode for Tom and Helen on 'The Jeffersons'.

He was fired from his police department for allegedly handing out a so-called "Ebonics Ghetto Handbook" and now, for the first time, we hear from the former HISD police officer. [WATCH VIDEO]

The handbook started making the rounds back in May, but not until August, when another officer filed a complaint, was a department-wide investigation started.

Former Officer Roby Morris and his wife talked to us from his attorney's office Monday afternoon. The former HISD gang unit officer says passing out the book was a mistake in judgment, but explains why he did it.

Roby says he got the news about his termination on the sixth anniversary to his wife, Donishea.

"Anybody who knows me will understand," he said. "The way I was portrayed is not me."

The bi-racial couple also has two young children.

"It hurts me that someone says he is racist," said Donishea. "There's no way."

Roby says he compiled the definitions of words like "gang" and "hood" along with pictures from the Internet into the so-called "Ebonics handbook" and that it was not meant to be a joke. He says he made it because of some biased comments a supervisor allegedly made to him.

"It was produced to open the eyes of a certain supervisor, to let him know that the way I speak is not basically the way a certain race would speak," said Roby.

"It does not offend me because he was teaching people so they can save your life," said Donishea.

Roby claims it's not the first time he's been called names because of how he speaks.

"I speak with, people say, ghetto lingo, people say slang," he said. "I speak where I grew up." (source)
