South African boxing officials are scrambling to lure world champion Laila Ali, the daughter of Muhammad Ali, back to the country after a scheduled title fight was scrapped.
Ali returned to the United States earlier this week amid mud-slinging between her camp and promoters Sta-Trade, after the later failed to secure funding for the much-publicized August 5 super-middleweight fight against Gwendolyn O'Neil of Guyana in Cape Town.
Ali arrived last week to great fanfare and now Boxing South Africa is hoping to bring her back after helping to negotiate a new date and conditions. (continue)
